Biography

Lawyer, Mediator, Arbitrator & Deputy Judge with Over 25 Years of Legal Experience

Rohan G. Bansie, the Principal of Bansie Dispute Resolution Services Inc. (BDRS), is a lawyer, mediator, arbitrator and Deputy Judge.  As a lawyer with over twenty-five years of experience representing private and corporate clients, Rohan has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal. In addition to his litigation experience, Rohan has also represented athletes, artists, and organizations in contract negotiations.

Rohan is a highly trained and experienced mediator who has been assisting with dispute resolution issues since 1986. Initially his services were performed on a consulting basis, but while practicing law, Rohan decided to incorporate mediation and dispute resolution services into the scope of his professional repertoire.

Over many years of working in litigation, mediation, and dispute resolution, Rohan has investigated and resolved a wide range of disputes relating to: corporate restructuring, employment, insurance, various types of commercial agreements, investment and finance, medical malpractice, debtor/creditor, and construction.

In 2007, Rohan was appointed Deputy Judge of the Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court, where he has since presided over and adjudicated thousands of trials, motions, and settlement conferences pertaining to civil litigation matters where the jurisdictional limit is $50,000.

Rohan has since turned his expertise towards the field of education and has delivered lectures and workshops to executives, business and department managers, sales professionals, law students, lawyers and paralegals on various topics of law. He has also extensively lectured on the topics of interviewing skills development, advocacy, litigation, negotiation, and dispute resolution.

In 2014, Rohan published his book Eloquence: Public Speaking Skills for Lawyers and Other Professionals, which is an essential guide to public speaking.

Rohan’s formal education includes: LL.B. /J.D. from the University of Ottawa, M.Ed. (psychology) also from the University of Ottawa, a B.A. (philosophy) and Certificate (adult education) both from Montreal’s Concordia University.  Additionally, among other courses and training, he has completed: the Canadian Securities Course, the Investment Funds Institute of Canada course, Project Management Workshop through Carleton University, and ADR and Advanced ADR Workshops sponsored by the University of Windsor School of Law.

Mediation

In his role as a mediator, Rohan Bansie has assisted individuals and corporations resolve a wide range of issues. Most of the issues were legal, in that litigation had already commenced.

Arbitration
